  Whitney Munson-Grennell, MA, LPC
  Clinical Director

I understand that the first step towards seeking therapy and counseling can be a difficult one, therefore my goal is to make the process as welcoming as possible. Positive changes through therapy can include an increase in self-esteem, a decrease in negative symptoms, improved communication skills and enhanced relationships. I believe that every person has the potential to reach his or her highest level of happiness in life.

I am skilled in working with an array of issues including emotional dysregulation, depression, anxiety, ADHD, and relationship issues. I work with children ages 5-11, adolescents, college students and young adults. I am trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Strength-Based techniques.

I emphasize building a warm, safe environment for clients to process their emotions, thoughts and stressors. My goal is to provide a place for people to heal. Once life experiences are processed in therapy, there is space for relief, acceptance, and empowerment. I consider it a privilege to be a part of another’s healing journey.
Therapy is the process of change which is hard and difficult for most.  I would like to accompany you on making the changes you would like to see in the important relations in your life including yourself, family, and partner.

I work mainly with children ages 3-17, and their families, with my primary focus on anxiety, depression, and parenting skills.  We will use multiple techniques taken from DBT, CBT, motivational interviewing, mindfulness, and Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT).  The skills learned in therapy can assist with increasing happiness, positive thoughts, positive communication, impulse control, and self-esteem.  While at the same time, decreasing depression and anxiety symptoms and working through grief and/or past trauma.

Therapy is all about you and getting what you want out of it.  I am excited to hear about your life story and to help you learn the skills that are needed to help you be the best version of yourself.

I have a very person-centered/eclectic approach to counseling.  I firmly believe that each individual is capable of reaching their best potential given the right support and tools for making the positive changes they desire.  I encourage clients to take an active role in their treatment.  The goals and techniques of therapy are based on each client individually according to their needs.  From dramatic changes in life, both planned and unplanned, to the simple daily events that can build to overwhelming extent, I have a passion for helping people process a situation and find the best coping techniques for them.

I am trauma informed, trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness.  I also have experience working with the families of military veterans and active duty personnel.

I believe that more important than a specific theory, the most important key to successful therapy is building a trusting, safe rapport with your therapist.  I feel blessed to be trusted to help people find the healing and strength they seek.

I believe psychotherapy should be supportive and empowering. The therapeutic relationship is critical to growth and change. Having strong therapeutic supports can strengthen a person and free them to find connection in the midst of confusion, overcome difficult life challenges, face their fears or move past a barrier that seemed insurmountable.

I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and I am trained in Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). I have worked with youth as young as 6 years of age to adults that are older than 73 years of age. I have experience with depression, chronic illness, grief/loss, substance use disorder, divorce/separation and parental difficulties. I also specialize in working with "positive stress" events such as the birth of a child, adjusting to a new job and life planning before or after a major change.

I look forward to working with you as you journey through life and find clarity, healing and hope.

My belief is that therapy should be empowering and be tailored to each client individually.  Every person is unique in their experiences and beliefs, and for this reason I utilize an integrative approach to counseling. This means that we will use different techniques and ideas from different theories and therapies to best suit each client and their goals.  I will work with clients to determine their goals for therapy, and will support and aid clients in accomplishing these goals.  I am passionate about mental health and helping people, and want to help everyone find the best fit for them.

I am a limited licensed professional counselor with experience working with severe and persistent mental health disorders, substance use disorders, depression, anxiety and trauma. I have experience working with a wide variety of ages from 18 to 70 years old. I am fluent and able to provide services in French.

I aim to build a welcoming, safe place for clients to explore and process emotions, thoughts, and behaviors and work towards improving their lives.  I am grateful to be able to aid people in realizing their strength and building a better tomorrow.

I believe therapy should be tailored to what each individual client needs and should be a collaborative process in which clients find their ability to empower themselves and find ways to make positive changes in their life. My goal as a therapist is to create a safe, judgement free place where my clients can explore their lives and experiences to better understand themselves and their goals. I believe in applying a direct, integrative, and inclusive approach helping my clients identify their goals so I can support them on their journey to achieving them.

I completed my Master’s in Counseling at Central Michigan University, and am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I also am a certified supervisor who works with new LLPCs entering the profession. After graduating, I went on to complete training and certification in the areas of DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), motivational interviewing, and suicide intervention and prevention. I am highly experienced in crisis and trauma and specialize in severe and persistent mental illnesses.

The most important thing to understand about therapy is the positive relationship and collaboration between therapist and their client should have the goal of the client ultimately finding the ability in themselves to achieve their goals, even if they feel they can't do so.  While everyone certainly has different backgrounds, needs, and personalities, one thing remains constant: everyone has the ability to find balance in their life while making positive change that can ultimately lead them towards the fulfillment of their goals. My job and my passion is to offer tools, skills, and techniques that will support my clients in doing so.

I believe everyone possesses the ability, power, and tools necessary to heal and move forward in their own personal journey towards a more joyful and fulfilling life. My primary goal as your therapist is to help you feel understood, supported, and safe during this process by providing an empathic and nonjudgmental environment.

I enjoy working with children ages 5-11, teenagers, and adults of all ages. I use an eclectic approach to treatment based on the belief that each individual is unique and deserving of treatment that meets their specific needs and learning style. I may use a variety of evidence-based therapeutic strategies in our work together to meet you where you are in the therapeutic process.

Coping with anger, worry, and sadness can be overwhelming. Big life changes can leave us feeling unsure and nervous about the future, and relationship issues are often complex and difficult to decode. I can help you understand emotions, work toward goals, and use strategies to tackle difficult feelings. I'm excited to hear about where you are, where you would like to be, and be a part of your path toward growth and personal wellness.
